ask ally: should I make a new IG account?

Ask Ally is a monthly segment in the simple living journal. Submit your anonymous questions about anything & everything. Questions are answered on the third tuesday of each month!

You’re not the first one to ask me this this question! Truthfully, I feel like this is a very individualized & strategic decision for each person, their business, & their brand. But here’s my hot take:

Should I make a new instagram for my business?

Having a separate Instagram account for your business can help you present a professional image and better target your desired audience. This also allows you to create a specific content strategy, track performance through analytics, and connect with other businesses and potential customers. However, beware when you create a new account there can be SEVERAL disadvantages. Some of them are:

01. Lack of audience.

Starting from scratch means building a new following from scratch, which can be time-consuming and difficult.

02. Brand confusion.

Having multiple accounts for your business can confuse your audience and dilute your brand.

03. Increased effort.

Managing multiple accounts takes more time and resources, which can be better spent on other marketing efforts — like long form content such as a blog, podcast, or YouTube channel.

04. Reduced engagement.

With a smaller audience, your new account is likely to receive fewer likes and comments, which can lower your visibility and reduce overall engagement.

05. Limited insights.

A new account will not have access to past data and insights, making it harder to measure the success of your marketing efforts.

Ultimately, if your original account already has a high engagement, aligns with your target market, & can be an easy transition, don’t make a new account. If you don’t ever post on your account, your audience wouldn’t benefit from what you’re selling, & it doesn’t feel right, make a new account.

Hope this gives you some things to consider as you make the best decision for yourself & your business! I’ll see you next time! Don’t forget to ask your questions here!
